Proprietorship or Private Limited Company: How to Choose
Published November 4, 2026

Choosing a business structure depends on ownership, liability, compliance and growth plans. A proprietorship is owned by one individual and is not a separate incorporated entity. A private limited company is a separate legal entity with shareholding and statutory governance requirements. Consider who owns the business, whether co-founders or investors are involved, expected risk, funding plans, reporting obligations and annual compliance costs. Do not select a structure only because it sounds prestigious. Ask for a comparison based on your actual business model and speak with a qualified professional before filing.
